Black Cottage Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2021
"Vibrant hues of magenta and pink lead to a bouquet of fresh black currant flesh and plums, there’s a definitive floral scent of violets then clay and a nut quality from oak. Dry and delicious on the palate with flavours of fresh plums and black currant fruits. A mix of baking spices and nut add some complexity and depth. Taut and youthful with plenty of acidity and abundance of tannins. Well made with a readiness for drinking form 2024 through 2029. Fantastic value!" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Jul 2023
"Sweetly fruited and attractively expressed, the inviting bouquet shows Black Doris plum, dark cherry, rich floral, mixed spice and toasted nut aromas. The palate delivers succulent fruit flavours with plump mouthfeel and supple texture, finishing lingering and pleasingly dry. At its best: now to 2028" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2024
This wine has captivating aromas of violet, ripe raspberries, plums, and subtle star anise spices. It has a rich palate of dark berry fruits with a smooth and juicy plush tannin texture. This has superb depth and roundness with a soft, focused finish.
Our Merlot is from The Bridge Pa Triangle Region in Hawke's Bay, known for its warm climate and free-draining red metal gravels. The 2021 growing season was exceptional, with slightly warmer and drier weather conditions resulting in lower yields, superior quality, and more concentrated flavours. Fermented in small stainless steel tanks with cultured yeasts and gentle maceration to enhance the fruit forwardness. The wine was aged in French oak for 9 months.
Food Pairing: Beef Carpaccio is the perfect dish to enjoy with this wine, friends and an afternoon of laughter.
