Brokenwood Cricket Pitch Red Blend 2022 (Australia)

Brokenwood Cricket Pitch Red Blend 2022 (Australia)

"Vibrant hues of dark red and ruby lead to a bouquet of intensity, ripeness and enticement. Aromas of blackberry and boysenberry, blackcurrant and roasted plums. There’s a mix of violets and leather, layers of wood spice and a gentle smoky quality from earth and oak. Perfectly weighted as the wine touches the palate with equal intensity from core fruit flavours and textures. Tannins are firm, polished and in abundance, acidity adds a precise frame carrying all the flavours acorss the palate. Delicious, fresh and dry with best drinking from 2029 through 2039+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Oct 2024

Leafy berry aromas are to the fore, due to the wine being majority Cabernet Sauvignon. A lovely mid-depth colour with youthful tints. Ripe Cabernet fruit complimented by the spice and plushness of the Shiraz component. Fine long tannins and acid line will see this age well over the medium term. A lovely drinking wine as always.

A combination of static and rotary fermenters used, after 2-3 day cold soak prior to ferment. This wine is matured in French oak up to 18 months with a small percentage being in new oak barrels.

The 32nd vintage of Cricket Pitch Red (not counting the 1986) is both multi-varietal and multi-regional. Just on 74% coming from New South Wales with the balance being Beechworth and Margaret River. The varietal breakdown is Cabernet Sauvignon 88%, Shiraz 11% and Merlot 1%. A good vintage across all regions in 2022 producing ripe, fine tannins with sweet mid-palate fruit.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with rich seafood, pasta and light meat dishes.
