Brookfields Hillside Hawke's Bay Syrah 2021
- Frech oak
- Dark plum & berries
- Dried spice
- Balanced
"Clear, deep ruby-black, lighter on the rim. The nose is lifted and poised with aromas of red plum, mulberry and strawberry coulis intertwined with violet, pepper, vanilla and herb. Full-bodied, aromas of red plum leading mulberry and strawberry coulis, enfolding sage, black pepper, violet, a hint of liquorice, vanilla and meaty nuances. The fruit is pure with depth and layers, slowly enveloping savoury elements. Smooth, fine-grained tannin contributes to a textural palate, marries acidity and drives a prolonged spicy finish. This lively Syrah possesses good energy, a red fruit core with intensity and multilayered aromatic on a structured palate. Match with lamb rack and braised duck over the next 8+ years. Fermented to 13.5% alc, aged in predominantly new French oak" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Nov 2022
This dynamic ‘Hillside’ Syrah is rich and dark with concentrated black berries, dark plums, black pepper, liquorice, dried spice and new French oak. There is a magic element to the Hillside Syrah - so much is happening from multiple layers of flavour. This ‘Hillside’ Syrah is elegantly balanced and seamless - plus will age for many years as have its predecessors. 2021 is one of the best vintages - cellaring will reward those with patience. With good decanting approachable now - and will age nicely for another 10+ years.
Food Pairing: Scotch Fillet with a mushroom sauce and seasonal vegetables.
