Cable Bay Rocky Vineyard Awatere Valley Chardonnay 2021
"A full bouquet of ripe stone fruit and barrel scents, there’s a big Brazil nut better and wood smoke quality and developing complexity. Full-bodied, rich and satin-textured as the wine touches the palate. Flavours of nectarine and green gauge plum, toasty wood spices with a hint of butter-scotch, baked apple and peach then citrus pith and peel. Dry, complex, spiced and lengthy, a wine to drink now or cellar. There’s a saline quality on the finish, plenty of tannins and phenolic impact. Best from late 2025 through 2030" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Dec 2024
From grapes grown on naturally low-yielding, 24-year-old vines, this wine has tension, depth, and complexity, with poached pear, key lime pie, smoky apple-wood, and cinnamon aromas complementing an intense palate. The palate is concentrated and mouth-filling but with lovely freshness and vibrancy. It has great structure, nutty creaminess, and beautiful focus and length. The mineral texture gestures to the river stones and fossilised shells that the vines grow on.
Wild fermented and matured in French oak for 12 months.
