Collaboration Ceresia Hawke's Bay Merlot Cabernet Franc 2014
"The 2014 vintage (4.5*) is a blend of Merlot (80 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (20 per cent), matured for two years in French oak barrels (25 per cent new). Full-coloured, it is youthful, but already drinking well, with mouthfilling body, vibrant, ripe blackcurrant and plum flavours, showing good concentration, well-integrated oak, finely balanced tannins and good potential; best drinking 2019" Michael Cooper, Buyers Guide to New Zealand Wines 2016
"My favourite is the Collaboration Wines Ceresia Merlot Cabernet Franc 2014 is a deep and aromatic red from a top Hawke’s Bay vintage. Seamless, linear, fine-grained wine with floral, violet, dark berry, anise and spicy oak flavours. A seductively elegant and appealing red that can be enjoyed now but promises to develop well with bottle age." Bob Campbell, The Real Review
"This spends 2 years in French oak, 80% new. Sophisticated with lovely texture and poise. A super-elegant style with lovely cherry and blackberry fruit. It has a really assured quality to it with nice weight and sophistication. Layered and elegant." Jamie Goode’s Wine Anorak, October 2018
Deep carmine with a cerise hue in the glass. This wine is perfumed with elegant, fragrant lifted florals, dark black fruits with a hint of vanilla and spice. The palate is smooth, rich and full, with Black fruits and inky notes with bright acidity. This magnificent blend is rich and powerful, yet elegant.
The 2014 growing season in Hawkes Bay was stunning. A long warm dry summer ensured optimum ripening conditions, producing wines with richness and density.
An integral part of Collaboration wines, Hawkes Bay’s maritime climate, microclimates and soil types provide a rich canvas of vineyard sites to work with. The winemaker has selected sites from some of Hawkes Bay’s finest winegrowing sub-regions that represent the ultimate varietal expression of the wines in their portfolio. Because of the tiny production of Collaboration wines, all of the vines are tendered by hand (with the help of family and friends) to ensure fruit of the highest quality is produced.
