Coopers Creek Gisborne Chardonnay 2023
"Good clean uncluttered Chardonnay, a hint of oak in behind but this is essentially a very dry, well-spined example, lots of flavours coming through now which shows best with food. Still youthful, best after mid-2025 – ready for next year’s Christmas!" Peter Saunders
"Aromas and flavours of peach and vanilla, pineapple and soft wood spice layers. There’s a freshness and vibrato from the acid line and youth highlighting vintage and vineyard and winemaking. As the wine opens out in glass the flavours remain persistent with acidity offering a youthful squeeze. Well made, dry on the finish and ready to enjoy from day of purchase through end of summer 2026" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier
Medium gold colour with a green hue. Aroma features fruit characters reminiscent of peach and melon. Lifted secondary aromas include floral notes such as Asian Lilly and spice notes of cardamon and vanilla from both the fruit and the oak barrels. Lovely balance between the acidity, fruit and oak sweetness and the overall weight of the wine. Medium to full body feel with a slippery smooth feel and texture. The 2023 Cooper’s Creek Gisborne Classic Chardonnay is ready to be enjoyed on release or over the next three years.
Our Classic range of wines seeks to capture the essence of New Zealand’s winemaking regions. Our Syrah comes from Hawke’s Bay, the premier wine region for this variety. Our winemaking approach with this range is to preserve the unique beauty of the wines through conservative winemaking.
Harvested off the Bell Vineyard, the 2023 growing season in Gisborne was challenging due to the amount of rainfall leading up to harvest. Fortunately the season was relatively warm which with vigilant vineyard management we were able to pick exceptional grapes. The resulting wines are typically fruit focused and exhibit accessibility and approachability on release.
Food Pairing: This is a very versatile wine but especially good with a chicken and avocado salad or a pasta carbonara with extra bacon.
