Craggy Range Te Kahu Gimblett Gravels Vineyard Merlot Cabernet 2017
"This region has a strong suit in merlot-based blends of real class. The bouquet shows classy oak combined with berry and cassis fruit flavours, the palate soft and supple, rounded and elegant, with good ripe merlot leading the way. The tannins are abundant but also smooth and rounded" Huon Hooke, Real Review
Deepest crimson red. Brooding aromatically with notes of cassis, black olive, dried tobacco and the faintest hint of caramel. The wine has lovely focus on the palate with dark fruits framed by fine tannins to deliver a classical structure with an excellent future ahead. Cellar 1 to 15 years from vintage.
The 2017 vintage saw a warm and dry Summer with a wet final ripening finish. Delightful blend of 66% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, which were hand harvested before being transferred to the winery. Fermented in closed top stainless steel tanks, and then aged in oak barriques for 10 months.
Food Pairing: Rich red meats.
