Falconhead Hawke's Bay Viognier 2021
- Dry style

"Winning the top wine at a Cuisine tasting is a big deal, even if we do say so ourselves. It means you have come up against similar wines from all around both New Zealand and the rest of the world at different price points and your wine has surpassed them all. To win such an accolade more than once is quite a feat, especially when it’s been assessed by different judges. To win it two tastings in a row is surely an assurance of consistent quality" Cuisine Magazine, Issue 210, Mar 2022
"Very enticing bouquet with aromas of flowers then ripe white fleshed apricot, some peach and apple then a touch of toasty spice and mineral. On the palate - soft and silky textured with some contrasting acidity, plenty of weight and drive. As the wine opens up on the palate flavours of spicy flowers and stone fruit become more intense and classic with a lovely concentration and length. A delicious example with subtlety and finesse, floral charms and a core of fruit" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Aug 2021
"Varietally expressive and youthfully charming, the bouquet shows apricot, mandarin, rockmelon and mixed spice aromas, leading to a supple palate that's rounded and lingering. It's smooth and fleshy with mellow acidity, finishing smooth and comforting" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2021
Perfumed aromas of ripe peach and vanilla spice. The palate displays rich stone fruit, tangerine and honeysuckle flavours supported by a long oily finish.
Viognier 91%, Gewürztraminer 9% grown from two of their Hawke’s Bay vineyards - Campbells Brook and Tantallon.
The grapes for this wine were machine harvested and transported to our Riverview winery where they were pressed with a fraction of the juice going to barrel for fermentation and the remainder being fermented in stainless steel. A variety of yeasts were used but predominantly 58W3. Following maturation in both oak and stainless, the wine was blended and tankered to our Katikati winery for final finishing and bottling.
