Framingham F Series Marlborough Field Blend 2023

Framingham F Series Marlborough Field Blend 2023

"Mid-gold. Decadent and exotic nose of lychee, crushed ginger, sun-dried pear, apricot and orange blossom which changes with air to reveal hints of spice and herb. The palate is rich and fleshy, amplified by the considerable palate weight and layered phenolics (likely from gewürztraminer and viognier). It tastes plush and oily with concentrated sweet fruit but finishes dry and grainy. There is a late, pithy and quite mineral acidity which runs right through the palate, adding citrus and sweet herb flavours as well as some tension. This very perfumed, fat and textural, full-bodied white will be versatile with richer food. It is delicious now and will go through various phases of expression as it matures over the next few years as different component varieties come to the fore" Stephen Wong, Master of Wine, The Real Review, Jan 2025

Scale_-_Dry

The 2023 F-Series Field Blend was made up of 6 different varieties all organically grown on our home estate. Soils here are of the old riverbed type; fist sized stones composed of greywacke (a hard, dark type of sandstone streaked with quartz and feldspar), mixed alluvial, gravel and silt.

All varieties were hand-picked on the same day. The fruit was destemmed and remained on skins for 12 hours before pressing. The resulting juice was transferred to a mixture of seasoned oak puncheons and stainless-steel barrels where it fermented spontaneously. The wine was then left on gross lees without an SO2 addition for 10 months to develop body and texture before being blended and bottled.
