"This is gorgeously fruited and splendidly fragrant on the nose showing rockmelon, fig, peach and vanillin oak characters with subtle oatmeal complexity. The palate delivers excellent fruit power together with seductive oak nuances. Finishing impressively long and creamy" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2019
“Richly aromatic and mouth filling, this wine exudes peach and apricot, with a luxurious vanilla and spiced oak creaminess" James Ostergren, Winemaker
The Glazebrook Black Label range is a celebration of provenance and commitment to winemaking traditions that capture the unique regional character of each varietal. Small parcels of outstanding fruit and craftsmanship are the essence of this great wine.
Located on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, Hawke’s Bay enjoys a temperate climate with high sunshine hours, warm day temperatures and cool nights. The Hawke’s Bay is New Zealand’s oldest and largest premium red wine producing region, however it also produces exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
Grown in the Ngatarawa triangle sub-region on 23 year old vines. The soil is formerly the riverbed of the nearby Ngaruroro river comprised of deep silty loam over gravels. The special nature of these soils creates wines rich in flavour with elegant, soft mouthfeel. The vines are naturally low yielding and produce small bunches with intense flavour. The grapes for this wine were harvested in the morning on 21 March 2018. The 2018 vintage was a classic high quality vintage in Hawke’s Bay. Hot and dry conditions from December through to February ensured ripe, flavoursome fruit in excellent condition.
Free run juice was fermented in French barriques. After the initial fermentation was complete, a secondary malolactic fermentation took place. The barrels were stirred every other week for the duration of maturation to increase mouthfeel and body. After 10 months, the wines were transferred into older barrels to moderate oak character, where they matured for a further 8 months before filtration and bottling.
Food Pairing: Perfect enjoyed with creamy dishes, roast or pulled pork or grilled salmon.
