Lamont Central Otago Pinot Noir 2019

Lamont Central Otago Pinot Noir 2019

  • French oak
  • Dark cherry & ripe plum
  • Oak spice & flint
  • Fine-grained tannins

"A fine complex bouquet, youthful, varietal and precise with aromas of dark red cherry and dried raspberry, a fine mineral core, layers of French oak spiced barrel qualities and a gun-flint nut quality. Dry, equally complex and textured on the palate. Fruit and wood spice flavours reflect the bouquet accentuated by tannins, dried herb and mineral along with a medium+ acid line. Youthful, coming into balance soon with great drinking from 2023 through 2030+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Jul 2022

"Alluring, hedonistic, perfumed nose with ripe dark cherry, boysenberry and violet aromas with complex notes of salted liquorice, graphite and lavender. Medium-bodied, tasty, supple and fleshy with an impressive, linear tannin structure and good length. A wine with energy, depth and charisma" NZ Wine Rater

"Deep, ruby-red, lighter on edge. This has a softly full, with minerals and herbs expression on the entry, interweave dark cherries, red plums and underlined spice. Medium-full bodied, aromas of cherries and plums intermixed raspberries, an amalgam of spice unveiled, along with thyme and earth. Tightly weaved tannins coated the palate with a fine grip, reflecting spices and rich tea. Lively acidity provides freshness to the rich palate. This broody Pinot Noir with dark-toned fruit, herb and spice is enlivened by a bright acid line and framed by a tightly knitted tannin structure. Match with lamb ribs and pork belly stew over the next 6-8 years. Handpicked, fermented in open-top tanks to 13% alc with a portion of whole bunches. On skins for 28 days and aged in French oak barrels for 11 months, 30% new oak" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Jul 2022

A wine that straddles the line between power and finesse, which so captures the potential of these high-altitude sites in Bendigo. The 2019 season allowed for ideal growing conditions for perfect ripeness and balanced acidity due to the uniform summer and long autumn. On the nose this wine shows elevated fruit aromas of boysenberry and ripe plum accompanied by some savoury notes of subtle mushroom and earthy spice. The palate is concentrated with notes of dense cherry and blackberry grounded by an earthy savoury character. The palate is exuberant with fresh acidity and embraced by fine-grained tannins. It is a harmonious, lively, and concentrated wine to be enjoyed in its youth and beyond (10+ years).

Hand-harvested and fermented in open-top tanks, hand plunged, with a portion of whole bunches. On skins for 28 days, then pressed off and sent to French oak barrels (30% new) for 11 months. Bottled end of March 2020.
