Lawson's Dry Hills Estate Marlborough Riesling 2018
- Off-dry style
- Lemon & lime
- Honey & subtle spice
- Medium-bodied
"Aromas of pears and white blossoms, sweet lemon and a whisper of lime, apples and mineral. Just dry on the palate with a core of ripe white fleshed fruits and citrus, a touch of white spice and refreshing tense acid line. A lovely expression and ideal aperitif. Best drinking from today and through 2028+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Oct 2020
"The youthful 2018 vintage is a single-vineyard, Waihopai Valley wine. Worth cellaring, it is medium-bodied, with strong, citrusy, slightly spicy flavours, and an off-dry (7 grams/litre of residual sugar), crisp finish" Michael Cooper's Buyers Guide, Jun 2021
"How good to see riesling released with a little bottle age. Wet stone, salted lemons and a little toast and lime marmalade. The palate is dry, with just a tiny touch of sweetness and crisp makrut lime acid. Great value" Gourmet Traveller Wine, Jan 2021
This shows all the characters you expect from great Riesling – lemon, lime, apple, honey, white peach and spring flowers. Time in the bottle age has given subtle, toasty aromas while the palate is bright, crisp and elegant with just a touch of sweetness to provide balance. With its naturally high acidity, good quality Riesling with intense flavours such as this one, age beautifully. Five years plus – no problem at all.
This is a single vineyard wine produced from a single pick from our Waihopai block in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys. The decision to harvest is made when the fresher green apple flavours balance with citrus and the riper stonefruit characters.
Once picked in the cool of the early morning, the grapes are gently pressed with only the free-run juice being fermented to make this wine. 100% Riesling, Alc 11.5%, 8 g/L RS, pH 3.0, TA 8.0. Vegan friendly.
Food Pairing: Easy to enjoy on its own, or to accompany seafood, creamy risottos and pasta dishes, fresh salmon, soft white cheeses and chicken.
