Matawhero Single Vineyard Gisborne Sauvignon Blanc 2021
- Dry style
- Tropical fruit
- Melon & herbs
- Rich & full
"This vineyard is dry farmed so the raw energy you will discover in this wine is all about the voice of place. Aromas of fresh gooseberry and peach, plenty of citrus with grapefruit and lemon then crisp apple and fresh herbs. Vibrant and very expressive on the palate with flavours of citrus and stone fruits, herbs and silty dry stone soils. High acidity, refreshingly crisp, great balance and length. Buy now, drink now. Will remain excellent drinking from purchase and through 2025" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Jun 2021
"This is fabulously fruited and intensely aromatic on the nose showing passionfruit, kaffir lime, jasmine and subtle musky notes, leading to a powerfully expressed palate offering vibrant fruit flavours together with lively acidity, making it delectable and highly enjoyable" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2021
Pale straw in colour with hints of gold. Tropical fruit, passionfruit and a subtle herbaceous note on the nose. Melon, stone fruit and subtle passionfruit. The wine finishes with a richness and fullness seen only in a good Sauvignon Blanc.
The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Knight's Road vineyard in Gisborne, where this Sauvignon Blanc was grown using dry farming techniques. The vines are pruned by the vertical shoot positioning system and with them being young plants, there was only one or two canes depending on the development of the plants.
To retain aromatic intensity and maximise flavour, the grapes were machine harvested in the cool of the morning, the fruit is crushed and destemmed to the press and then chilled overnight. The resultant juice was then inoculated with selected yeasts and fermented cool. Post blending the wine was kept on lees to maximise structure in the wine. The wine was then stabilised, filtered and bottled. This has resulted in a Sauvignon Blanc with great texture and aromatic intensity.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with summer salads, seafood and white meat.
