Monowai Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2021
"An immediate impact of varietal fruit and sweet toasty barrel spices, fresh peach and baked appple, vanilla and a whisper of gun-flint minerality, stony soils and new wine complexity. A smooth satin textured mouthfeel with flavours of stone fruits and tree fruits, some grapefruit and barrel spices combine to give this wine freshness and impact. Fine tannins and medium+ acidity, balanced, well made and ready to drink from 2022 through 2026+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Jun 2022
"It's delightfully appealing on the nose showing ripe peach, lemon peel, nougat and oatmeal characters, leading to a nicely rounded palate offering juicy fruit flavours together with supple texture, finishing lingering and tasty. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2022
Aromas of ripe peach abound, with subtle undertones of buttery oak and a refreshing citrus acid backbone, adding layers of complexity. A balance of fresh fruit, malolactic and oak influences have resulted in a full bodied wine with stone fruit flavours, buttery, nutty notes and Meyer lemon freshness.
100% fermented and aged in older French oak barrels, sur lie. 100% MLF. 10 months in barrel before being blended to tank, ready for bottling.
Food Pairing: Roast chicken & mushroom risotto, Roast Salmon with herby cous cous salad & Butternut Squash Cannelloni.
