Muddy Water Waipara Pinot Noir 2013
Deep burgundy in colour with a complex and elegant nose. Wood smoke, dried herb, peppercorn spice underpinned by enduring blue floral notes. The palate is rich yet restrained; focused and integrated with resolved tannins. Savoury through the mid palate leading to a long berry-laden back palate.
Entirely certified organic production from our estate vineyard, this Pinot Noir is predominantly from ungrafted vines. Planted in a wide variety of clones on calcareous clay soils on the gradual slopes in Omihi Waipara, we manage with very limited irrigation and entirely by hand throughout the season. We handpick our small quantities of bunches early in the morning while the fruit is cold to allow for a gradual introduction to the winemaking process. The 2013 growing season was near perfect – characterised by long stretches of warm, dry weather. With naturally low yielding vines we (100%) hand-picked small quantities of intensely flavoured and perfectly ripened fruit.
