Mystery Gimblett Gravels Hawke's Bay Syrah 2020
- French oak
- Ripe boysenberry
- Roasted nut & spice
- Firm tannins
"It's splendidly ripe and fragrant on the nose with dark berry, olive, rich floral and roasted nut aromas, followed by a flavoursome palate offering excellent weight and supple texture. Generous and robust yet silky and soothing with a persistent, structured finish. At its best: now to 2030" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Mar 2024
On the nose the wine shows classic Syrah characters of blueberries, boysenberry and cracked pepper with underlying earthy smoky notes. To taste the palate is fresh and juicy, with bags of dark berry and spice complete with a classic firm tannin and clean acidity. A well-balanced wine that delivers enjoyment now.
After a spring with few frost events, the new year brought with it the long hot summer days and cool nights that Hawke’s Bay is known for. February saw no rainfall with very drying conditions in the lead up to harvest. Early ripening meant picking began at the start of March. An excellent vintage all round now paying dividends in the winery.
Harvested from our famed Gimblett Gravels vineyard off old vines, our Hawkes Bay Syrah is a classic example of New World winemaking. Clean, fresh with bags of flavour and complexity this is a wine to enjoy now with friends, or pop a few in the cellar to enjoy over the next few years.
