Mystery Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2019
- French oak
- Grilled stonefruit
- Toasty cedar
- Nougat & hazelnut
"Beautifully composed and elegantly expressed, the wine shows white flesh peach, lemon peel, nougat and oatmeal characters on the nose. It's refined and linear on the palate, delivering youthful fruit flavours together with fine texture and bright acidity, finishing persistent and creamy. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2020
Showing grilled stonefruit, hazelnut and lovely citrus aromas. These combine with a touch of toasty cedar, leading to a silky finish. Already enjoyable, this wine will continue to improve over the next 3 to 7 years.
Sourced from mature vineyards in Hawke’s Bay, this is a rich Chardonnay with the accent on complexity and great fruit weight. The vineyards are planted in two different clones of Chardonnay, Mendoza and Clone 15. These vineyards consistently produce concentrated, focused fruit at low crop levels. This ensures even ripening and great flavor development.
The fruit for this wine was pressed and the cloudy juice was then transferred directly for fermentation into French oak barrels, with 30% new oak, using both inoculated and wild yeasts. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was left on lees in barrel for approx. 11 months to promote texture and mouthfeel.
Food Pairing: Perfect with rich creamy pastas, seafood or with roasted chicken.
