Mystery Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2019 (06)

Mystery Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2019 (06)

  • Barrel fermented
  • French oak
  • Grilled stone fruit
  • Hazelnut & toasty cedar

"Beautifully fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows golden peach, fig, vanillin oak and nougat characters on the nose, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate that's creamy and lingering. It's generous and satisfying with excellent fruit intensity together with seductive oak nuances. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2020

"Classic, familiar and refreshing bouquet of Chardonnay with aromas of smoky and toasty wood, roasted peaches and vanilla cream with a harmonious and nicely complex allure. On the palate - full-bodied, silk & cream texture with fine wood tannins, medium acidity and fruit flavours that reflect the nose. Balanced and well made, youthful, vibrant and delicious. Best drinking from today and through 2023+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Apr 2020

Sourced from vineyards in Hawke's Bay, this is a rich, barrel fermented Mystery Chardonnay with the accent on complexity and fruit weight. Grilled stonefruit, hazelnut and citrus aromas combine with hints of toasty cedar, leading to a silky and long finish. Another fantastic vintage from this winery that proves to be a member favourite at Black Market with the previous vintage being completely sold out!

The fruit for this Mystery wine was sourced from mature vineyards in Hawke's Bay. The vineyards are planted in two different clones of Chardonnay, Mendoza and Clone 15. These vineyards consistently produce concentrated, focused fruit at low crop levels. This ensures even ripening and great flavor development.

The fruit for this wine was pressed and the cloudy juice was then transferred directly for fermentation into French oak barrels, with 30% new oak, using both inoculated and wild yeasts. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was left on lees in barrel for approx. 11 months to promote texture and mouthfeel.

Food Pairing: Perfect with seafood or pasta made with rich, cream based sauces or with roasted chicken.
