Mystery Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2020

Mystery Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2020

  • French oak
  • Grilled stonefruit
  • Cedar & hazelnut
  • Long finish

"Wonderfully ripe and gorgeously complex, showing golden peach, baked fig, vanillin oak and brioche characters on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate offering terrific fruit power combined with elegant oak infusion, finishing impressively long and delectable. At its best: now to 2026" Sm Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2021.

Grilled stonefruit, hazelnut and citrus aromas combine with hints of toasty cedar, leading to a silky and long finish.

Sourced from vineyards in Hawke’s Bay, this is a rich, barrel fermented Chardonnay with the accent on complexity and fruit weight. The fruit for this wine was sourced from mature vineyards in the Bridge Pa and Crownthorpe sub-regions in Hawke’s Bay. The vineyards are planted in two different clones of Chardonnay, Mendoza and Clone 15. These vineyards consistently produce concentrated, focused fruit at low crop levels.  This ensures even ripening and great flavor development. Already enjoyable, this wine will continue to improve over the next 3 to 7 years.

The fruit for this wine was pressed and the cloudy juice was then transferred directly for fermentation into French oak barrels, with 30% new oak, using both inoculated and wild yeasts. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was left on lees in barrel for approx. 11 months to promote texture and mouthfeel.

Food Pairing: Perfect with seafood or pasta made with rich, cream-based sauces or with roasted chicken.
