Aromas and flavours pepper spice and dark berries, lots of raspberry and plum then black currant and layers of wood spice and earth. Firm tannisn with plenty of acidity for freshness and to carry the core fruit flavours that speak to the variety and Matahiwi style. Well made with development time necessary. A vibrant and expressive Syrah, bursting with lifted notes of violet, ripe blueberry, cracked pepper and a hint of toasted spice. The palate is plush and smooth, layered with juicy boysenberry and plum, flowing through to a long, velvety finish.
Sourced from mature, low-yielding vines in the Bridge Pa Triangle, the fruit delivers exceptional concentration and depth.
The 2024 vintage in Hawke’s Bay was outstanding for reds, thanks to warm, dry conditions throughout the season.
After a three-week fermentation on skins with gentle extraction, the wine was matured in both barrel and tank for eight months, allowing the fruit and tannin to knit together seamlessly before blending and bottling.
Food Pairing: A natural partner for pasta, pizza, or hearty red meats such as duck, venison, lamb and beef.
