Mystery Marlborough Pinot Noir 2019 (02)

Mystery Marlborough Pinot Noir 2019 (02)

  • Oaked
  • Plums
  • Raspberries
  • Balanced & structured

"Complex and engaging, the bouquet shows dark cherry, smoked game, thyme and roasted nut characters with a hint of earthy mushroom on the nose. It's succulent and wonderfully weighted on the palate, delivering terrific persistency well complemented by spicy/savoury nuances" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2020

This Mystery 2019 Pinot Noir is a fruit driven pinot noir, a full palate of red plums and raspberries and sweet red berry fruits. The affect of the oak is subtle and noticeable, giving the wine balance, depth and structure.

It is 100% Pinot Noir grown in a Single Vineyard from their home block in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand.

The 2019 Season was a return to a normal hot dry summer which gave them a slightly less than “normal” crop, due to unsettled weather during flowering in December. With the hot summer conditions it led to an early harvest. The flavours developed steadily during the ripening period, they picked 2 clones together as their maturity was similar.

The fruit was transported to the winery, de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel fermenters with indigenous yeasts, plunged to keep the cap moist, then inoculated to complete to a dry ferment, cold soaked then pressed to tank, 25% new oak. After 10 months of maturation and development the wine was then blended and prepared for bottling.

Food Pairing: Tender New Zealand lamb, duck, chicken, strong seafood such as salmon, and tapas such as chorizo, patatas bravas and pimientos asadas.
