Mystery Marlborough Pinot Noir 2019 (Export Wine) (01)

Mystery Marlborough Pinot Noir 2019 (Export Wine) (01)

  • French oak
  • Dark cherry & plum
  • Warm spice & mocha
  • Silky finish

"It’s beautifully ripe and immediately appealing on the nose showing sweet plum, dark cherry, warm spice and roasted hazelnut aromas with a hint of earthy mushroom. The palate delivers rounded mouthfeel and fleshy texture, wonderfully complemented by succulent fruit intensity and delightfully melded tannins, finishing silky and lingering. At its best: now to 2027" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2021

On the nose, this elegant Pinot Noir shows lovely red and dark fruit notes, with ripe cherry and plum, brambly spice and a touch of earthy, smokiness. The primary fruit theme continues through the palate, with the succulent red berry and fruit characters balanced by hints of subtle, woody spice, elegant mocha, and complex savoury elements. Soft, ripe, lingering tannins and a touch of creamy oak create harmony in this stylish wine. Dry, with a medium body, this naturally vibrant wine finishes with great structure and length.

The fruit was picked at optimum ripeness and then cold soaked for 5-10 days in open top and stainless steel fermenters. Once fermentation kicked off, the ferments were hand plunged or pumped over 2-4 times a day. The winemakers included around 5% whole bunches to add aromatic lift, spice, and complexity. The wine was left on skins for 1 to 2 weeks post ferment to extract flavour, colour and tannin. Malo-lactic fermentation was left to occur naturally in Spring. The wine was matured in a mix of French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks for 9 months.
