Mystery Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2021 (08)
- Dry style
- Feijoa & guava
- Elderflower
- Vibrant acidity
"Bright, even, very pale straw-yellow. The nose is softly full and distinctive, with aromas of gooseberries, guava and currants underlined lime, entwined with elderflower and a subtle hint of white spice. Medium-bodied, deep aromas of gooseberries, white currants, guava melded with lime and its zest; elderflower adorned; white spice lingers with chalky minerals and salinity. Taut acidity provides good energy to the concentrated fruit, which shows weight, depth and a complex range of flavours. Fine-textured chalky minerals extend a silken texture to an elegant palate. This vibrant yet serious Sauvignon Blanc shows style and quality fruit in a pure, refined expression and a dusty, long finish" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews
"This is terrific; it's fabulously aromatic on the nose showing feijoa, kiwifruit, kaffir lime and nectarine aromas, followed by a wonderfully flavoursome palate offering excellent varietal purity and persistency. Classically expressed and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Mar 2022
"Reasonably punchy sauvignon blanc, with classic passionfruit, capsicum, gooseberry and guava flavours supported by ripe, restrained acidity that gives a pleasantly dry and lengthy finish. A charming wine" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review
"Probably at or nearing its peak, the 2021 vintage is highly aromatic and intensely varietal. Bright, light lemon/green, it has fresh, incisive, passionfruit and green capsicum flavours, dry (2 grams/litre of residual sugar), crisp and lingering. Good value" Michael Cooper
Aromas of ripe gooseberry and passion fruit, whilst the palate is intense and layered with nettles, stone fruits and subtle minerality with balanced acidity providing a long lingering finish.
The fruit was Machine harvested and handled as gently as possible once in the winery to preserve any of the vibrant fruit flavours. Fermentation was completed under cool conditions in Stainless Steel and stopped once there was a natural balance between any residual sugar and the zesty acidity of the Awatere.
