OTU Classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023

OTU Classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023

"It's brilliantly expressed on the nose showing kiwifruit, green rockmelon, apricot and lime peel aromas, leading to a concentrated palate offering terrific fruit vibrancy and persistency. Beautifully composed and styled with a refreshing mouthfeel, making it highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2027" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Mellow, textural sauvignon with good weight and purity. Green capsicum, blackcurrant bud, gooseberry and citrus/lime zest are among the more obvious flavours. Fresh, punchy wine with good varietal definition" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review

"Lots of bitter lemon, grass and limes with some capers and fennel. Medium-bodied, dry and crisp. Drink now. Screw cap" James Suckling

"Offering fine value, this youthful wine was estate-grown at Otuwhero Estate, in the Awatere Valley.  Pale lemon/green, it is mouth-filling and ripely herbaceous, with strong, youthful, passionfruit and lime flavours, crisp, finely balanced, dry and lasting.  Still unfolding, it should be at its best mid-2024+" Michael Cooper

Passion fruit, lime zest, melon and sweet herbs. Fresh, edgy and intensely vibrant Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Passionfruit, kiwifruit, lime zest and grapefruit flavours are offset by a beautiful crisp finish.

Bold and intensely vibrant Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc distinctively Awatere Valley, this wine is sourced solely from our finest steeply terraced, north facing blocks on the OTU Wine Estate.

The 2023 OTU Estate Classic Sauvignon Blanc was predominantly harvested from our most elevated coastal McKee Block 3&4, and our low yield, high performing Dysart Blocks 2 through 5.

The 2023 growing season was fraught with significant weather events for all of New Zealand, in the form of tropical rain rivers causing widespread flooding and the devastating Cyclone Gabrielle, but theAwatere Valley Marlborough was blessed with moderate rainfall, a late but prolific flowering period throughout November and December, and a stunning late, long summer that allowed harvesting to occur at the optimum fruit ripeness.

During the overall ripening period of January through to early March a warm, but higher rainfall than normal maximized the crops for the 2023 season. A sunny, warm and dry finish enabled the harvest team to bring in the fruit with ripe flavours and refreshing acidity. Harvested in the cool of the night, all OTU Sauvignon Blanc fruit was off the vines in a quick, smart and focussed harvest within 4 days, finishing on Easter Sunday the 9th of April. To ensure added texture and depth, after fermentation, the wine was kept on light lees for three months until bottling.
