Palliser Estate Martinborough Chardonnay 2019
- French oak
- Vanilla & baked bread
- Green aple & ripe preach
- Creamy finish
"Intense and quite complex chardonnay with green apple, grapefruit and a strong struck-flint, reductive character that dissipated to some degree with aeration. A smooth-textured and appealing wine with cellaring potential" Bob Cambell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Sep 2020
"What I really like about this wine is that there is something for everyone - from the familiar bouquet of roasted yellow orchard fruits to the subtle complexity of minerality and the bold flinty edginess of modern wine making. Flavours and textures on the palate include grapefruit peel and peach pith, nut, spice, lemon and ripe apple then the youthful grip and tension from acidity and oak in harmony. Wood tannins add a finesse and complexity while the voice of stony almost silty minerality steps forward right at the end. Balanced yet holds on to its youthful side still, has a lengthy finish and elegant complexity. Best drinking from early 2021 through 2026" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Aug 2020
Pale straw with gold flecks in this glass, this wine exudes aromas of an idyllic summer. A hint of freshly mown hay gives way to lush tropical and stone fruit, including nectarines and golden peach. A vanilla kiss of French Oak barrels and the autolytic complexity of baked bread completes the aromatic profile. Full, rich and complex in the mouth, a subtle phenolic grip and mineral complexity bring structure and gravitas to the plush, silky palate. Ripest peach and nutty oak complexity drive the mid-palate to a long, finely creamy finish that wrestles with an electrifying acid line. The length and layering is exemplary, a ripe year with cold nights leading to one of the finest Estate Chardonnay wines that Palliser has ever made. Highly versatile with your favourite white meats or poultry, it has the richness to stand up to anything you might throw at it. Enjoy young or keep for up to 10 years in cellar conditions.
96% of the fruit from the Palliser Vineyard with the balance from the organic vineyard Om Santi. Handpicked and wild fermented with vineyard yeast in french oak barrels. Select barrels underwent lees stirring for added complexity and texture, before the wine was bottled 11 months later.
