ROHE Blind River Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024
"Delicious, fresh, fruity and varietal with core aromas and flavours of peach and sweet grapefruit, apple, pear and a fine layer of tropical fruits including pineapple. Hay and fresh green herbs, a wet stony soil quality and white spice features. Crisp and refreshing with a focused acid line and length. Well made with a lengthy finish. Best drinking from 2024 through 2027+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Dec 2024
Intensely aromatic with lemongrass, yellow citrus and an unforgettable richness on the palate. The mouth-watering acidity helps drive a lengthy finish. This wine is immediately expressive and will continue to drink well for the next five years.
Blind River is the driest, coolest, and most wind-swept sub-region located on Marlborough's Southern Coast. The soil is free draining, and a mix of stone and clay.
The growing season in Blind River began with cool weather that brought a significant frost. As summer arrived, the weather improved bringing warm, consistently dry and windy conditions. The lighter crop meant the vines were not stressed, despite dry conditions, and there was no risk of disease. Cooler evenings before harvest helped to preserve acidity. Fruit was harvested at full ripeness. After gently pressing the grapes, juice was fermented in stainless steel with selected yeast strains to retain the flavours unique to this subregion. Some batches of juice were fermented warmer to build palate weight. The cooler fermentations retained the aromatics and freshness. The best batches were tasted and blended, before being kept on lees for three months, prior to bottling.
