Soho McQueen Central Otago Pinot Noir 2015
"This impressively fruited pinot shows wonderful aromas of dark cherry, plum, mixed spice and floral with nuances of vanilla and toasted hazelnuts. The palate is concentrated and richly fruited, while remaining refined and structured. A hugely appealing pinot offering excellent fruit power together with seamless mouthfeel and terrific length. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2016
"Dark, even ruby-red colour with slight purple hues, youthful in appearance. This has an elegantly presented nose with concentrated and refined aromas of dark red berry and black cherry fruit harmoniously melded with thyme herb layers and subtle whole bunch complexing stalk elements. Attractive black mineral detail unfolds with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate is fine in proportion with concentrated flavours of ripe black berry and cherry fruit integrated with layers of thyme herbs and whole bunch stalk notes. Floral lift, mineral nuances and a suggestion of oak toast add complexing interest. The wine is very fine-textured with flowery tannins, and balancing acidity enlivens and enriches the mouthfeel. The wine flows smoothly to a long, lingering, sweet, black-fruited finish with herb notes. This is an elegantly concentrated, refined, black-fruited Pinot Noir with subtle herb and whole cluster complexities, and a fine-textured palate" Raymond Chan
Winning 11 Gold medals since it's coronation, king of Central Otago Grant Taylor has crafted MCQUEEN 2015 Pinot Noir - the perfect ratio of balance & complexity showing Central Otago at its best. With lush black cherry & a lashing of rich plum revealing a lengthy silky textured mouthfeel with rich chocolate & spice.
The Bendigo fruit contributes ripe berry flavours & masculine structure; Brannockburn gives delicious Otago cherry notes & wild thyme spice. The grace of the Gibbston fruit completes the wine giving it gorgeous floral notes, bright acidity & tremendous length. 2015 was a cooler vintage showing more red fruit, perfume & the classy, elegant appeal of timeless Pinot. Captivating in its youth, this wine will continue to deliver grace & intrigue and reward those with patience.
