Squawking Magpie The Gravels Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2019

Squawking Magpie The Gravels Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2019

  • French oak
  • Vanilla pod & brioche
  • Apricot
  • Silky texture

"Aromas of French oak and yellow fleshed stone fruits, grapefruit peel and raw sugar, blond tobacco and warm crushed stones. On the palate - dry, full-bodied and tasty with flavours of orchard fruits and oak, medium and acidity and a noticeable bite of wood. Salivating and lightly saline with fine tannins, an overall chalk-like texture and a lengthy finish. Well made, youthful and still on its journey to full integration and harmony" Cam Douglas, Master Sommelier, Mar 2020

"Ripe, weighty chardonnay with peach, tree fruit, stuck flint, toast, baguette crust and spick oak flavours.  An attractive wine with a pleasingly silken texture and surprisingly lengthy finish.  Good value at this price" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, May 2020

"It's gorgeously expressed on the nose showing apricot, vanilla pod, cedar and brioche characters. The palate displays excellent concentration and expansive mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by refined texture and seductive oak infusion. Sophisticated and super long on the finish. At its best: now to 2026" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2020

Single vineyard barrel aged Chardonnay from the Alluvial soils of Hawkes Bay.

Hand selected fruit with 12 months maturation in new and one year old French oak, the wine is beautifully textured, full bodied with butterscotch and spicy oak flavours. Displaying mineral tones from the Terrior, this wine has a delightful and very long finish.
