Summerhouse Marlborough Pinot Gris 2021
- Dry style
- Stonefruit
- Pear & ginger
- Complex & juicy
"It’s beautifully ripe and inviting on the nose showing pineapple, Nashi pear, orange peel and rich floral aromas. The palate delivers terrific fruit intensity backed by silky mouthfeel and refreshing acidity, finishing lingering and delicious" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2021
"Fruity, ripe, fresh, youthful and pure fruited bouquet with aromas and flavours crunchy brown pear and white fleshed nectarine, some citrus and white spice. On the palate there’s a vibrant and refreshing core of flavours accentuated by acidity, warming alcohol and youthful satin-cream textures. Balanced and well made with a persistent lengthy finish. Great drinking from 2021 through end of 2023" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Nov 2021
Aromatically alluring with stone fruit, fresh pear and a hint of ginger spice, the complex, juicy flavours are balanced with a subtle lusciousness.
Vintage 2021 was over before they knew it. Frost events, poor flowering and drought across the growing season meant a smaller crop and a short harvest. But it also meant very little disease pressure, resulting in beautiful, clean fruit and smaller bunches with more intense flavours. Due to COVID travel restrictions still affecting the world, they had seasonal vintage winery staff from 2020 who stayed with them throughout the year. Their experience and expertise was invaluable in vintage 2021, as they brought in many enthusiastic first-timers to assist us with their harvest. As usual, it was a big team effort and they're excited about the quality and intensity of flavour in their 2021 wines.
Overlooking the ocean in dry and windswept Blind River, they grow their grapes in one of the harshest environments in Marlborough. Their grapes enjoy the region’s long sunshine hours, while the ocean breeze keeps things cooler and drier. Pinot Gris grapes were harvested, before being gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. After harvest, the fruit was gently pressed and cool fermented with selected yeast strains to retain fruit flavour.
