Summerhouse Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Summerhouse Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020

  • Ripe citrus
  • Tropical fruit
  • Lemongrass
  • Mouth-watering finish

"It's brilliantly expressed on the nose showing rockmelon, kiwifruit, kaffir lime and green apple characters, leading to a powerfully flavoursome palate that's filled with delectable flavours. The wine offers excellent fruit purity together with lively acidity, finishing long and delicious. At its best: now to 2023" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2020

"Bright, pale yellow with a lime hue, even colour throughout. The nose is softly-full, vibrant and fresh, nuances of passionfruit, gooseberry, guava enlivened by a touch of white pepper, underlying fresh herbs, florals and oyster shells. Light-bodied, the palate is clean, showing a purity sensation of passionfruit, guava, along with grapefruit pith, forming an elegant core. Chalky minerals flow along with subtle herbs to a delicate finish with white pepper and seawater. The mouthfeel has a strong mineral flow, chalky, oyster shells with a sense of umami. The acid is mouthwatering, providing support to the fruit and drive a crisp finish. This is a vibrant Sauvignon Blanc with flavours of tropical guava, passionfruit on a chalky mineral flow and crisp finish. Match with clams and mussels over the next 2-3 years" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, Sep 2020

A riot of ripe citrus and tropical fruit aromas. Loaded with juicy rock melon and vibrant stone fruits and lemongrass, the mouth-watering finish on this one deserves some serious savouring.

The 2020 vintage will be remembered for many reasons. The driest summer on record allowed for perfect ripening conditions. Late summer brought Marlborough’s trademark cooler nights that are so important for aromatics and retention of acidity. 2020 would’ve been a stress-free harvest, if it wasn’t for COVID-19! The introduction of a nationwide lockdown to slow the spread of the virus coincided with the beginning of their harvest. Their vineyard and winery teams moved incredibly fast to adhere to very strict distancing and hygiene protocols to allow them to continue to operate. Despite the challenges, they are delighted with the quality and flavour concentration in the 2020 wines.

Overlooking the ocean in dry and windswept Blind River, they grow their grapes in one of the harshest environments in Marlborough. Their grapes enjoy the region’s long sunshine hours, while the ocean breeze keeps things cooler and drier. The best parcels of grapes from their family-owned vineyard were harvested, before being gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the individual wines are tasted, then the top 10% are blended into the Summerhouse Sauvignon Blanc.

Food Pairing: Enjoy with a delicious grilled chicken burger or Caesar salad.
