Te Mata Estate Vineyards Hawke's Bay Syrah 2021
- French oak
- Raspberry
- Vanilla & cocoa
- Luscious
"Stunningly beautiful, showing Black Doris plum, blueberry, floral, cedar and mixed spice aromas, leading to a powerfully graceful palate that’s juicy and fleshy. The wine has excellent depth and concentration, wonderfully framed by loads of finely woven tannins. At its best: now to 2031" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2022
Dark and brooding in the glass, Estate Syrah ’21 is ink-black with a vivid magenta edge. The lifted aromatics of concentrated raspberry and crushed violets quickly become layer upon layer of exotic spices, fruit cake, lardon, vanilla, and cocoa running the length of this wine’s luscious palate. Dense, saturated, ripe, and enticing in its detail - Estate Syrah ’21 delivers on every dimension. Estate Syrah ’21 will continue to evolve in bottle for two to four years from harvest.
Estate Syrah ’21 was harvested between 19 and 26 March 2021 from Te Mata Estate’s own vineyards in Hawke’s Bay’s Dartmoor, Bridge Pa Triangle and Gimblett Gravels sub-regions.
The individual parcels of syrah from each plot were destemmed for fermentation and remained on skins for extended maceration before pressing. It was then run off to a mixture of new and seasoned French oak barrels for 12 months’ maturation, during which time it was regularly topped and racked. The wine received a traditional egg white fining before bottling.
Food Pairing: Estate Syrah is a wonderful accompaniment to all red meats, savoury and lightly spiced dishes of Mediterranean cuisine, as well as soft cheeses.
