Toi Toi Reserve Marlborough Riesling 2019
- Off-dry style
- Lemon & lime sorbet
- Apple & peach
- Medium-bodied
"Well fruited Riesling with more to say as it opens up fully over Summer. Nicely textured and balanced already. Ready into 2022 and beyond" Peter Saunders Review
A dry pale golden Marlborough Riesling which is well fruited with mixed citrus (lemon and lime sorbet), honeysuckle and orange blossom. Notes of green apple and white peach on the palate. Bold, textured and well balanced with medium body. Finishes long with hints of lanoline and bees wax.
The 2019 vintage was one of the warmest on record with harvest starting 10 days earlier than normal. We were able to harvest the fruit at optimum ripeness, with sugar levels and flavours in absolute balance. With cooler temperatures around flowering and fruit set, tonnages were generally lower around the region, which resulted in lower crops but high intensity in the fruit.
The grapes were hand harvested with soft handling of the fruit and some whole bunch pressing. Once pressed off skins, the juice was then fermented at low temperatures with selected yeast strains to preserve the inherent delicate fruit flavours.
From snow capped mountains to endless coastline, the native Toi Toi expresses itself distinctively across New Zealand. This adaptability is the inspiration for these wines - crafted from New Zealand’s best grape growing regions. Proudly family owned and sustainably produced – protecting our lands for future generations.
