Vidal Legacy Gimblett Gravels Hawkes Bay Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2019
- French oak
- Black currants
- Tobacco leaf
- Velvet tannins
"Magnificently composed and styled, the wine shows crème de cassis, subtle tobacco and spicy oak aromas on the nose, followed by a dense yet seamless palate offering awesome fruit concentration and drive. It's classically structured by fine chalky tannins, combined with refined texture and delectable flavours. At its best: 2024 to 2036" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Mar 2021
This highly perfumed Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend from the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District shows the intense aromatics of black currants, tobacco leaf, and graphite. Extended maceration on skins has rendered a velvet tannin structure which marries harmoniously with fine French oak. This wine is elegantly balanced and delivers a textured palate with great mineral length and fresh finish. Distinct and age worthy.
The 2018/2019 growing season and the vineyards sites have produced a fragrant and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend. Attentive canopy management and early fruit thinning ensure we obtain the highest quality fruit possible. This rigorous management and ideal weather conditions allowed for the picking decision to be made at just the right moment to retain the freshness of acidity yet deliver ripe and unctous flavours.
Relatively young, but densely planted vines that are just coming into their own. Situated in the premium Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District where naturally free draining soils and low vigour, 'lean' sites produce fruit with intense perfume, fine grained tannin and powerful concentration. This unique site coupled with detailed vineyard knowledge and attentive winemaking delivers an elegantly textured wine that is truly ageworthy.
