Villa Maria Reserve Clifford Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024
"It's powerfully expressed on the nose, showing passionfruit, feijoa, kaffir lime, and lemon zest aromas. The palate delivers outstanding concentration and intensity, superbly structured by fine texture and lively acidity, making it hugely appealing. At its best: now to 2029" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Feb 2025
"Intense aromas of tropical fruits and grapefruit, green and red apple, bell-pepper and fresh herbs present simultaneously. A bouquet of power and intensity with classic fruit and non fruit scents. Crisp, dry, intense and fruity with flavours that mirror the bouquet. High acidity, a steely mouthfeel and herbaceous basil and thyme quality add complexity and style. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2028+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Mar 2025
The Clifford Bay Sauvignon Blanc is a pure expression of Marlborough's Awatere Valley. Aromas of fresh snow pea, jalapeño and kaffir lime reflect the cooler, windier conditions of this subregion. Lively acidity carries delicate flavours of raspberry and lemon zest to a long and persistent finish.
Taylors Pass vineyard has a very varied soil profile of deep silts to free draining gravels and large river stones. These soils coupled with slightly warmer conditions produces very elegant, textural wines with characters of lemon grass, fresh raspberries and jalapeño.
Seaspray vineyard is right on the coast of Clifford Bay and is therefor exposed to the cooling sea breezes. This leads to wines with briny minerality and intense aromas of lime zest and fresh capsicum.
Selected aromatic & textural yeast strains 100% stainless steel fermentation.
Low rainfall over winter and cooler weather at flowering resulted in reduced crop yield for the 2024 harvest. The growing season progressed with Marlborough's classic dry conditions, warm days and cool nights. The idyllic weather and low crops produced pristine grapes with concentrated flavours and fresh acidity.
