Vino Lascito Sangiovese Rubicone 2019 (Italy)

Vino Lascito Sangiovese Rubicone 2019 (Italy)

  • Sweet & vanillin oak
  • Dark plum & cherry
  • Toasted nut
  • Silky, polished tannins

"Youthfully attractive and beautifully fragrant, showing Black Doris plum, sweet cherry, almond and subtle spice notes with an elegant floral overtone. It's succulent and plump on the palate offering delectable fruit flavours combined with silky texture, making it immediately drinkable. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2021

“Intensely ripe, rich, concentrated example of the great grape of Tuscany, only here transported to the winegrowing region of Rubicone in Romagna. Densely coloured, with heady, macerated cherry fruit on the nose, supported by a whiff of vanillin oak. Lush and creamy to taste, that sweet oak is again evident, this is a seductive, generous, fleshy red to serve with rich foods, or the cheese course. If you like big Aussie Shiraz, or opulent Rhone reds, this is for you!” Paul Tudor, Master of Wine

“This extremely affordable, super drinkable Italian wine took my fancy. It over delivers on price and flavour. It is a bargain; I love it... an awesome grape variety and easily one of my top 5 faves. Or is that one of my top 3. I never can decide. Made in Romagna by winemaker Scipione Giuliani, who uses the appassimento (dried grape winemaking) method to produce a modestly priced wine with great concentration and dry flavours” Joelle Thomson

Sangiovese is Italy’s most famous and most planted grape variety. Despite the international renown of Sangiovese in Tuscan wines such as Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino the variety is just as important in Rubicone, an important subregion of Emilia-Romagna where Sangiovese is the principal grape variety. Romagna (where the cities of Rimini, Riccione, and Ravenna are located) has 3500ha planted and after years of research it has emerged that two of the finest clones, R24 and T19, are in fact from Romagna.

In this case talented winemaker Scipione Giuliani has produced a wine of great depth and balance. A dark colour-saturated, full-bodied modern style of Sangiovese with intense violet, berry and dark-chocolate, savoury flavours supported by good acidity and rich tannins.

Food Pairing: The wine is smooth enough to drink on its own but the complex flavours and rich structure of this wine mean it is a great accompaniment to a wide variety of cold-cuts, cheese and meat dishes.
