W5 Hawke's Bay Merlot 2020
- French oak
- Cassis & black plum
- Dark cocoa
- Silky tannins
"Wonderfully fruited and fragrant, showing cassis, sweet plum, dried herb and cedar characters on the nose. It's comfortingly delectable offering excellent fruit weight and intensity, beautifully complemented by silky texture and fine-grained tannins. Well structured and long on the finish. At its best: now to 2026" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Mar 2021
Deep plum in colour, this wine is silky and smooth with layered flavours of black plums and ripe mixed berries with a hint of spice. Savoury toasted oak combine with dark cocoa and licorice to add interest and complexity. Silky tannins and well balanced acidity provide a luscious mouth-feel and lead to refined, well structured finish. Drink now or carefully cellar for up to five years from vintage date.
Grapes for this wine came from certain selected vineyards in the Hawkes Bay where they were harvested in the cool of the evening once they had reached maximum maturity. Once settled it was then racked to seasoned French oak barrels where it underwent secondary fermentation.
Food Pairing: A perfect match with filet mignon and seasonal vegetables.
